Power Rangers is directed by Dean Israelite and stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Banks. The plot of the movie is a group of high-school students, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world. I would watch Power Rangers all the time as a kid and I have good memories of the show. I do have the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on DVD just because it’s fun to every once in a while put on a few of the old episodes. It’s an incredibly cheesy show, but it is fun. Just like the two most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie I was expecting this to be bad and just like those two movies I had a lot of fun watching this movie. The five main actors are surprisingly really good and they have great chemistry with each other. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is a campfire sequence were they all have a hart-to-hart with one another and they connect. Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa gives a very over-the-top performance which would have been fine, but everyone else in the movie is doing their best to be serious and those two tones don’t mix it wasn’t enough to take me out of the movie, but if there is a squeal which is hinted at in a mid-credits scene they need to stick with one tone. The action scenes are a lot of fun to watch. Bryan Cranston who voiced some of the monsters in the original show voices Zordon and he does a great job. I think people who are fans of Power Rangers will enjoy it and even people who have never seen it might enjoy it. 4 out of 5 stars for Power Rangers. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
